
Margaret Garvey
Margaret “Maggie” Garvey is Chief of Staff and Impact at the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. In this role, she works in close partnership with the President and CEO and as a member of the executive team to advance the Foundation’s strategy, strengthen organizational effectiveness and support the impact of its work to advance education equity across New England.
Maggie brings more than 20 years of experience in public service and nonprofit leadership, with a career dedicated to expanding opportunity, strengthening communities, and building systems that center community voice. Prior to joining Nellie Mae, she held senior national and regional leadership roles with AmeriCorps, including serving as Acting Director of AmeriCorps VISTA. Her work has spanned community development, poverty alleviation, workforce development, disaster recovery, and civic engagement, with a consistent focus on supporting locally led solutions and sustainable systems change. At Nellie Mae, her focus is on building strong internal operations, executing strategy, and building up on a culture that lives our mission at every level of our work.
Maggie earned her bachelor’s degree from Simmons University and her master’s degree from Prescott College, where her studies focused on political science, community organizing, and civic leadership. She is deeply committed to Nellie Mae’s mission and to ensuring that young people have the power, resources, and opportunities to shape their educational journeys and futures.
